Version 1.0: A behind-the-scenes video from the official photoshoot of Madrid’s home 2023-24 Shirt It is possible to glimpse the expected black and gold Third kit in the back. This is probably due to the fact that they removed all promotional materials from the shirt designs on the day!
Original, 18 June: In an unexpected move, Real Madrid will have similar colors for 2023-24 away kits and third kits. Footy Headlines can now 100 100% confirmed.
Real Madrid 23-24 Away & Third Kits
The 2023-24 season will see Real Madrid opting for the navy away kit as well as the third kit is black. The decision will cause a stir among both pundits and fans alike because it seems to go against the conventional goal of providing contrast and avoiding color clashes with the opposition.
White home kits along with the blue away kit as well as the black third kit appear to not be able to differentiate enough for certain opponents. For example, when playing with Newcastle United as well as Juventus, Real Madrid would be left without a suitable kit to wear, because Newcastle and Juve have black and white. This unusual choice triggers memories of the latter part of 2000 and the early 2010s when Adidas also offered Madrid third and away kits that were identical in terms of color and design (the 23, 24, and 25-year-old kits sport distinctive designs, while the 23-24 kits do not).
Bayern Munich 2023-24 Home & Third Kits
Real Madrid is not the only Adidas club with two similar color kits. Bayern Munich will have two kits with strikingly similar colors: a white/red home kit as well as an off-white/dark red 3rd kit (to be worn during the Champions League, possibly also at the home games).
The decision to offer two kits without contrast could be seen as a reversal from the original goal of third and away kits, that is to give teams other options should they encounter color clashes with their opponents.
It is yet to be determined how Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will handle potential color clashes, and make sure that their kits are distinct enough to not cause any confusion in the game. There is, however, the option of wearing an old kit from the previous season.
